SpongeBob SquarePants visits Ohio Stadium for 'The Great Buckeye Chase'

The marching band makes a SpongeBob SquarePants formation at Ohio Stadium

Ohio Stadium became Bikini Bottom on Saturday as The Ohio State University Marching Band performed its "SpongeBob: The Great Buckeye Chase" halftime show during the football team's game against Wisconsin. The band played songs from the full SpongeBob catalog including the television show on Nickelodeon, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical.

The show told the story of our hero, SpongeBob, finding a lucky buckeye and having the buckeye stolen by the evil Plankton. SpongeBob spends the remainder of the show trying to get his lucky buckeye back.

The band opened the story by playing the SpongeBob SquarePants theme song complete with a pirate ship sailing across the sea before SpongeBob himself made an appearance, waving hello to the Ohio Stadium crowd. SpongeBob then danced with two jellyfish under a disco ball for "Goofy Goober Rock." SpongeBob took Gary the snail out for a walk during "Best Day Ever" when he first finds his lucky buckeye.

SpongeBob then meets with Plankton, and the two sing "The F.U.N. Song" as the band spells out the word "FUN" on the field. But Plankton merely used that as a diversion to steal the buckeye from SpongeBob, and the band follwed a Plankton formation with a pair of ripping shorts to the tune of "Ripped Pants," showcasing SpongeBob's embarrassment.

SpongeBob gets together with his best friend, Patrick, and they get up the courage to take on Plankton and get the buckeye back. The band played "Campfire Song Song" and "Now That We're Men" with a Patrick formation on the field, and that was followed by "Living in the Sunlight, Loving in the Moonlight" over a formation of three fish. Plankton fed the buckeye to one of those three fish, but, as buckeyes are "killer nuts," the fish coughs it up and SpongeBob recovers the buckeye.

The show concludes with SpongeBob showing off his reacquired Buckeye to the crowd over "Bikini Bottom Boogie," and SpongeBob takes the buckeye back to his pineapple under the sea as the theme song repeats.
