The Ohio State University Marching Band Debuts New Uniforms for the 2025 Season

For the first time since 2006, The Ohio State University Marching Band has received a complete new set of uniforms, which debut for the 2025 season. While the new uniforms maintain the traditional look that generations of Buckeyes know and love, they are crafted from a modern, lighter-weight material that offers improved flexibility and durability. This upgrade allows members of The Best Damn Band in the Land to perform their precise marching and musical movements with greater ease and comfort, all while upholding the timeless tradition of the band’s iconic appearance.

For nearly 20 years, the band’s uniforms were worn proudly, but the years of use had started to show. Made of wool, they had endured countless performances in Ohio Stadium, parades all over the U.S. and internationally in London, and trips across the country. Over time, the fabric began to fade, seams frayed and the overall look grew worn. While those uniforms carried decades of memories, it became clear that the band was ready for an updated set that could match the energy and precision of today’s performances.

This update to the band’s uniform inventory was made possible through the generous support of President Walter “Ted” Carter and the Office of the President, along with Dr. Melissa Shivers and the Office of Student Life. Their commitment ensures that the band can continue to perform at the highest standard while honoring Ohio State’s proud legacy.

“The students who are part of Ohio State’s legendary marching band represent the very best of our university: They work hard, they are outstanding ambassadors for Ohio State, and they embody our commitment to excellence in all they do,” said President Walter “Ted” Carter Jr. “TBDBITL deserves to have uniforms that match the quality of their performances, and I was proud to make this worthwhile investment. I can’t wait to see the new uniforms in action on Saturday!”

Melissa Shivers, PhD, Senior Vice President for Student Life added “Ohio State is as beloved for our deep-rooted sense of tradition as we are well-known for our extraordinary spirit of innovation. Our storied Marching Band is a beautiful melding of both, and we are so proud to help them showcase it on the field this season.”

The new uniform jackets and pants are only two of the 10 total pieces that make up the full uniform worn by band members. A full uniform consists of a hat with a plume, white dress shirt, black tie, the uniform jacket, white cross belts with brass, uniform pants, belt or suspenders, black socks, black polished shoes and a red beret.

“These new uniforms honor our tradition while giving our students the comfort and flexibility they need to perform at the highest level,” said Dr. Christopher Hoch, director of The Ohio State University Marching Band. “We are incredibly grateful to President Carter, Dr. Shivers, and their offices for making this possible for our students and we can’t wait to show them off on Saturday!”

The Ohio State University Marching Band will be wearing the new uniforms as they take the field on Saturday when the Buckeyes face off against the Longhorns.
