Ohio State Marching Band kicks off home stand with homage to jazz

Jazz musicians perform with TBDBITL at halftime

For TBDBITL's first halftime performance in the 'Shoe this season, the band honored America's truly original art form of jazz through the music of legendary musicians Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Thelonious Monk and Buddy Rich, all born 100 years ago in 1917.

The OSUMB was joined on the field by jazz musicians in the Ohio State School of Music, and together they played energetic renditions of "Groovin' High" and "Round Midnight," all while marching in the formations of music notes, a piano and Monk's signature sunglasses.

Before the game, fourth year band member Tim Hogue gave fans a never-before-seen look at what it's like to dot the "i" in Script Ohio. Hogue, who graduated in May 2017 with a degree in security and intelligence and with minors in Russian and aviation studies, returned to the Ohio State Marching Band to fulfill a dream he's had since he was a student at Canton McKinley High School. The 360 degree video simulates being in the shoes of the person and looking around to the left, right, up and down.
