While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. Former Ohio State football coach Earle Bruce was recognized for his devotion to the university at the Ohio State-Rutgers game on Oct. 1 when he dotted the “i” in Script Ohio.

Bruce, who was the head coach for the Buckeyes from 1979 to 1987, was chosen for the recognition because of his longtime support and love for the marching band, which extends back to when he was a freshman at Ohio State in 1950.

The acknowledgment, which is bestowed by the senior sousaphone members of the band, is considered the greatest honor that can be extended to a nonmember.
