Christopher Hoch Named Director of Ohio State Marching and Athletic Bands

Christopher Hoch

Christopher Hoch has been named director of Marching and Athletic Bands and associate director of bands, and he has been confirmed by faculty in the School of Music as assistant professor, effective June 1. Hoch has served as interim director since May 2015.

Ohio State’s Marching and Athletic Bands have continued — and improved — their tradition of excellence under Hoch’s leadership. In addition to the technically stunning football season halftime performances, viewed my millions in person and online, he took the band to London for its first-ever international trip to march in a parade on Regent Street and perform in Wembley Stadium for an NFL game last October.

Hoch brings 16 years of music education experience to the director position. He joined Ohio State in 2012 as assistant and then associate director of Marching and Athletic Bands. During his season as interim director, he has been responsible for overseeing all elements of show design and field rehearsals, as well as band tryouts, music rehearsals and other administrative responsibilities. As director, Hoch will continue to be expected to instill in the students the highest standard for their personal conduct, on and off the field.

Hoch’s Ohio State education includes bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and music education in 2000, master’s degrees in instrumental conducting and music education in 2002 and a PhD in music education in 2012.
