Student Staff
The Student Staff is comprised of non-performing band members whose job is to run the day to day behind the scenes work of The Ohio State University Marching Band. Members of the Student Staff are appointed by the Director and serve at the discretion of the Directing Staff. Student Staff members are considered members of the band and accompany the band at all home games, concerts, and on trips to away games and Bowl games.

These individuals are grouped into five areas - Audio & Visual, Instrument Managers, Record Fund, Secretarial Staff, and Uniform Managers. These areas are lead by three Head Staff members - Head Secretary, Head Treasurer, and Head Manager. The Head Secretary oversees the Secretarial Staff, the Head Treasurer oversees the Record Fund Staff, and the Head Manager oversees the Audio/Visual, Instrument, and Uniform Staff.
The duties of the Head Secretary include, but are not limited to -
- Daily operations of main office
- Primary liaison between secretarial staff and director
- Supervises secretarial staff
- Maintains music and film library
- Obtains current copyright clearances
- Prepares tryout information and procedures
- Assists the Director with trip preparations (rooming lists, itineraries, flight manifests, per diem, etc.)
- Oversees copying and distribution of charts, music, and other materials to the band
- Purchases supplies
- Assists with the preparation of press guides
- Oversees the preparation of band mailings
- Assists the Director with other administrative tasks as needed
The duties of the Head Treasurer include, but are not limited to -
- Responsible for record fund operations
- Oversee all financial assets from accessories and recording sales
- Oversee Instrument Room daily operations
- Primary liaison between managerial staff and the director
- Assist with logistical planning for performances and trips
- Assist with purchasing of new equipment
- Oversee stadium seating arrangement
- Assist with overall facility operations
- Oversee rehearsal set-up and logistics
The duties of the Head Manager include, but are not limited to -
- Responsible for uniform and instrument inventories
- Oversee Manager's office daily operations
- Oversee Audio/Visual operations
- Primary liaison between managerial staff and director
- Assist with logistical planning for performances and trips
- Assist with purchasing of new equipment
- Supervise the construction and implementation of props
- Oversee stadium seating arrangement
- Assist with overall facility operations
- Oversee rehearsal set-up and logistics
