Athletic Band Instrumentation
The Athletic Bands differ from the Marching Band in that it offers full instrumentation – woodwinds are invited and encouraged to participate. The row structure of the Marching Band is upheld, though usually modified to allow flexibility in the number of musicians and addition of woodwinds.
Effer (Eb cornet) and flugelhorn players are limited to those who played those instruments during the Marching Band season, though the directors can make exceptions as needed. Clarinets and flutes usually double the Bb trumpet parts, and saxophones double mellophone and baritone parts.
Students have the option of using their own instrument or checking one out from the second floor Instrument Office. All brass and percussion instruments are available to sign out for the entire quarter, but unfortunately the office does not provide any woodwind instruments or accessories.
