Spring Athletic Band

Pre-Game show at the 2003 Spring Football Game

The Spring Band is currently the only springtime marching band of its kind in the United States. It is regularly invited to performances around the country, such as opening day at Cedar Point, the Indianapolis 500, the Kentucky Derby and the Strawberry Festival. Local performances include a Pregame and halftime show at the OSU Spring Football game, the PGA Murifield Golf Tournament, Drum Major Tryouts and the Mirror Lake Concert.

The drum major for the spring band is the assistant drum major from the previous season's marching band. Several marching band members usually participate to get a head start for tryouts.

The OSU Band staff commissions a show specifically for the spring band -- recent shows have had Dvorak, Styx, and Evita themes. Senior music majors that have participated in the marching and/or athletic band programs have written the drill for these performances.

Students have the option of using their own instrument or checking one out from the second floor Instrument Office. All brass and percussion instruments are available to sign out for the entire quarter, but unfortunately the office does not provide any woodwind instruments or accessories.

The uniform consists of a red polo shirt, black pants, shoes and socks. The polo shirt must be bought through the second floor Uniform Office for $25.00, and the band member is responsible for purchasing the pants, shoes and socks on his or her own.
